What to expect
We want you to have a detailed and accurate understanding of the caravans and park to inform your booking decision and make the most of your holiday. The park has consistently achieved a 4-star grading from Visit England, in association with the Fowey Tourist Information Centre.
The caravans are situated on a small site in an elevated position about 100m from the beach. There are seven caravans in total, arranged in two terraces, five on the upper terrace and two on the lower terrace. All of them are Atlas Gemini/Florida Excel 28x10's. They are carefully arranged so that all have West-facing views across the bay; the upper terrace has slightly better views than the lower but that is offset by easier access to the latter. There is a plan of the site here. Note that there is no provision for tents, touring caravans or motor-homes.
The caravans sleep a maximum of six people. There is a room with a double bed, a room with two singles (6'x2') and the living room area which has a fold-out double bed. One of the single beds can be stored under the other to make room for a travel cot. The kitchen has a gas cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and crockery for six people, plus a comprehensive range of cooking utensils. The living room area has a dining table, digital TV/DVD and gas fire. The bathroom has a toilet, basin and shower, with water heated by gas (included in price). There is an electric towel heater in the bathroom, and fan heaters in the bedrooms. Interior photos can be found on the Gallery page. Note that we do not provide travel cots but we do have high chairs, which you can reserve in advance.
Outside, there is a decking area equipped with a table and chairs; the decking has a gate to stop toddlers from roaming. Each caravan has a barbeque. Between the caravans, there is grass which we mow regularly. Note that, due to the steep banks, no ball games are allowed but there is a badminton net and rackets which you are welcome to use.
When you book a caravan you have the option to book bed linen at extra cost. Linen is then provided for the number of people in your party. Note that this service is for bed linen only; you need to bring towels and tea towels. A washing-up cloth and liquid is provided, as is a complimentary toilet roll.
We have a laundry room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Use of the washing machine is free; the tumble dryer is coin-operated.
We are fortunate to have a good mobile phone signal on all of the networks and there is free WiFi on the site, based on fibre broadband, new in 2019.
The site is ideal for families, booking one or more caravans. It also suits couples and anyone who appreciates the peace, seclusion and beautiful views that it offers. The site is not suitable for the following: groups of students or under-21s (except by specific arrangement), more than four adults in one caravan, anyone wanting to party. Pets are not accepted. Smoking is not permitted in the caravans.
The driveway to the site is steep but wide, allowing one marked parking space for each caravan. From the driveway, there are lighted pathways. There are three or four steps up to the decking area outside each caravan. If any of your group has mobility problems, please note that the entrance to the site is steep, and you should make us aware so that we can allocate a caravan with the easiest access.
A formal access statement is available here.
When you make a reservation, we allocate a caravan for you. If you wish, you can request a specific caravan for a small extra charge.
- All caravans have a sea view
- Caravan 1 has the easiest parking
- Caravans 1 & 2 have the easiest access but a little less view
- Caravans 3, 4 & 5 have the best views
- Caravans 6 & 7 have more privacy and outside space
- Caravans 1 & 2 and 6 & 7 are good for families/friends booking together
As a business, we are careful to be as sustainable as possible. Here are a few examples:
Reduce: The pathway lighting is discrete, with low-power, low-energy lights that minimise light pollution while still allowing safe access and an attractive night-time appearance.
Reuse: The 60m boardwalk was designed specifically to re-use as much of the decking from the old caravans as possible to minimise waste. To restore a safe surface to the reused boards, a specially-formulated non-slip coating was created for us.
Recycle: Even the recycling boxes are recycled - old fish boxes washed up on the beach!
Our guest information pack includes a wide range of days out using trains, as the site is close enough to walk to Par station on the coast path. Cycle hire and routes are also included. The walk to Fowey passes through beautiful (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) countryside, with a choice of around the headland (about 2.5 hours) or across the Saints' Way (about 50 minutes) and maybe take the bus back.
Polkerris Holidays is owned and run by Lynn and Bob Shillito, who are committed to making Polkerris a great place to stay and enjoy the wonderful natural facilities that it offers, while striving to operate the business as sustainably as possible. We do not use online travel agents or other referral sites to promote the business: bookings can only be made using the Reservations page on this site, or over the phone. In this way we ensure that everyone pays the same price and has the same access to available accommodation.
